This pair of late nineteenth-century Victorian English glass lustres exhibits a vibrant pink glaze complemented by crenellated, scalloped rims. Each lustre comprises a well-drawn column rising from a round base, decorated with fine enamelling and rubbed gilding that reveals the passage of time. Intricate gilded scrolling and white enamelled dots adorn the bulbous upper sections, adding a touch of elegance to the design. Hanging from the rims are double rows of six well-cut clear glass pendant spears in the form of crystal prisms, creating a sparkling effect when light catches them. Measuring 36 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, these lustres offer substantial presence for interior display. They make a striking addition to a mantelpiece in a traditional living room, drawing-room, or dining area, where they serve as decorative candle shields or ornamental table garnitures in a period interior.

Victorian glass lustres are decorative glass vases or candle holders designed with suspended cut-crystal prisms or drops around the rim, popularised during the nineteenth century to reflect and refract candlelight.

These items were crafted using blown or cased coloured glass, often decorated with hand-painted enamel and gilded details, while the dangling prisms were made from lead crystal.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically feature pontil marks on the base, hand-cut crystal drops held by wire hooks, and subtle variations in hand-painted gilding or enamelling.

Lustres are traditionally placed in symmetrical pairs on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to create visual balance and catch natural or ambient light.

Dust the glass surfaces gently with a soft microfiber cloth, remove crystal drops to wash them individually in lukewarm water with mild detergent, and avoid harsh chemicals that could lift painted gilding.
