This Victorian punch ladle dates to the nineteenth century, measuring 44 cm in total length. The piece pairs a deep silver-plated bowl with a long, light brown turned wooden handle, joined by a silver socket ferrule and incorporating a pouring spout. The timber shows visible grain, surface wear, and a few minor knocks along its length, while the silver plate exhibits a polished metallic finish. Today, this functional accessory suits display upon a sideboard top or service within an English country house setting. The bowl measures 12.5 cm by 7.5 cm with a depth of 3.5 cm, while the entire object weighs approximately 139 g and bears no maker marks.

A punch ladle is a specialised long-handled serving utensil designed in the 18th and 19th centuries for decanting punch, toddy, or mulled wine from large bowls into individual cups.

These utensils typically featured bowls made from sterling silver or electroplated silver, often paired with handles carved from turned wood, turned bone, whalebone, or mother-of-pearl to resist heat transfer.

Authentic examples often display silver plating makers marks, soldered joins between the metal ferrule and socket, pouring lips on the bowl, and natural wear or patination on the turned handle.

Display the ladle alongside vintage glass decanters on a dining room sideboard, rest it inside a punch bowl as a table centrepiece, or mount it in a shadow box display.

Clean the metal bowl using a soft cloth and specialised silver polish while avoiding harsh chemicals; keep the wooden handle dry and treat it occasionally with natural beeswax paste.
