In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This is a hand-woven Persian Malayer carpet from the early 20th century, dating from around 1930 and made from wool and cotton. The rectangular rug displays a deep indigo blue field filled with intricate floral vine scrolls, blooming plants, and boteh motifs, centred around a striking multi-tiered medallion pattern. The central field is enclosed by narrow borders of angular polychrome vines in terracotta and ivory tones, flanked by detailed carnation guard stripes and outer decorative bands. The fringes remain visible along the bottom edge, framing the complex hand-knotted composition. Measuring 192 cm high by 132 cm wide, the carpet provides a substantial floor covering suitable for an English country house interior, a living room, a study, or a hallway, adding traditional pattern and rich colour to a residential space today.

FAQs

Malayer rugs originate from the Hamadan region of western Persia, created by village weavers resulting in distinctive stylized floral and geometric patterns executed with indigo blue and terracotta dyes.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton foundation, utilizing natural vegetable dyes for variable colour depth known as abrash.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical hand-knotted construction, individual weaver design variations, single-weft technique, and a soft, resilient wool pile.

A traditional Persian carpet grounds contemporary spaces by introducing historical depth, pairing effectively with minimalist furniture, natural timber, or tailored upholstery.

Regular gentle vacuuming without a beat-bar, immediate spot cleaning with cold water, professional wash treatment every few years, and a quality underlay prolong the life of the fibres.
