Guilloche enamel is a decorative technique where a precise, mechanical pattern is engraved into metal beneath a translucent layer of enamel. It gained widespread popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.

These jars traditionally combine a cut crystal or glass body with a sterling silver collar and a decorative enamel or metal lid, often featuring hallmark stamps denoting the metal purity and country of origin.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver rim, assessing the weight and clarity of the cut glass base, and inspecting the enamel for hand-turned engine-turned patterns rather than modern printed replicas.

Such decorative objects are well-suited for display on a bedroom vanity, dressing table tray, or open shelving, adding a touch of historic colour and reflective metallic texture to contemporary spaces.

Silver components should be cleaned gently with a specialised microfibre polishing cloth to avoid abrasive contact with the delicate glass and enamel surfaces, which should only be wiped with a soft, damp cloth.
