Victorian decorative metalwork is characterised by heavy ornamentation, revivalist motifs inspired by Gothic, Renaissance, and Rococo styles, and exceptional hand-chased detailing.

Authentic period frames typically utilise solid sterling silver or silver plate mounted over a wooden core or easel backing, often featuring velvet or leather lining on the reverse.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, standard mark (such as the lion passant for sterling silver), and date letter, alongside natural tarnish and hand-crafted irregularities.

These pieces provide a reflective metallic accent that contrasts effectively against contemporary minimalist furniture or adds curated historic depth to mantelpieces and side tables.

Silver should be cleaned sparingly using a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage delicate chased details and historic patination.
