This Georgian sterling silver double-lidded snuff box, made in London in 1809 by William Eaton, has a bright silver colour and a rectangular shape with curved profiles. The exterior displays fine reeded linear engraving along the hinged lids and sides, contrasting with the smooth curved spine where the lids meet. Clear silver hallmarks appear inside the base and match those stamped in both lids, while the maker mark shows slight rubbing but remains readable. One minor dent marks a corner, and the piece weighs 100 grams with a length of 9 cms. Placed on an office desk or library table, this gentleman's desktop accessory provides a practical container for small keepsakes or stamps. The double-lidded design allows separate access from either side, making it a functional and tactile addition to a study or display cabinet interior.

A Georgian silver snuff box is a pocket-sized container produced during the reign of Kings George I through George IV (17141830), specifically crafted from sterling silver to hold powdered tobacco.

These boxes were typically hand-fashioned from sterling silver, featuring engine-turned reeded decoration, gilded interior wash to prevent oxidisation, and flush-fitting integrated hinges.

Authentic British Georgian silver carries official hallmark stamps including the sovereigns profile duty mark, a lion passant standard mark, a city assay mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

A silver snuff box functions as a decorative desk accessory, placed atop a stack of books on a coffee table, or displayed alongside other metal objects inside a glass cabinet.

Care for antique silver involves gentle wiping with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding submersion in liquid dips that can alter surface detailing.
