Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This unusual vintage silver-plated tankard dates from c1960 and carries a maker's mark for Pinder Brothers stamped underneath. The piece displays a bright silver colour across its polished metal surface, complemented by a smooth tapered body, a stepped circular base with layered mouldings, and a cast pistol-shaped handle complete with a trigger guard and detailed grip. The original silver plate shows little wear, with clean reflective surfaces throughout the interior and exterior. Measuring 13 cm in height, the tankard holds a capacity of one pint. In a contemporary home, this novelty vessel serves as a conversation piece on a gentleman's library desk, a living room sideboard top, or a home bar display. It suits retro, mid-century modern, and eclectic interior schemes, adding character to shelving arrangements or acting as a decorative container for pens or small accessories. The solid construction and stable stepped foot allow it to stand securely on flat surfaces.

FAQs

Popular during the mid-twentieth century, novelty tankards are functional drinking vessels featuring whimsical or thematic design elements, such as pistol handles, frequently produced as gifts or decorative bar items.

These items were generally manufactured from a base metal alloy, such as nickel silver or brass, electroplated with a thin surface layer of fine silver to provide a reflective metallic finish.

Authentic pieces typically feature maker stamps or electroplate marks on the underside, alongside characteristic mid-century solder joints and natural surface wear consistent with age.

A novelty tankard functions well as a decorative accent on a home bar cart, sideboard, or study bookshelf alongside dark wood furniture and vintage glassware.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialized silver polish to remove tarnish, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemical solvents that can wear away the electroplated coating.
