Description

This 19th century Tunbridge Ware Go to Bed and candle holder is the biggest example I have seen.. It measures 14.5cm h x 6cm w.

Decorated with the classic mosaic stick,  this Go to Bed has an octagonal base which unscrews for matches or wafer seals. The internal section has a central circular compartment for holding wax tapers or wax sticks and matches would have been stored around the outside and also in the base of the Go to Bed which unscrews as well. Wafer seals may also have been stored in here. This item would have had two functions for lighting when going to bed and also for use on a desk for lighting wax sticks for seals on letters.
