Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1940s:
Cast beaded swags and acanthus mouldings: popular mid-twentieth-century French revival ornament.
Base metal showing through thin high-point plating: rubbing from past polishing.
Modern twin-core flex wired externally: later electrical update.
Cast alloy assembly nuts behind the backplate: twentieth-century manufacture.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This set of four Louis XVI Revival six-branch wall lights dates from the mid 20th century. Each imposing piece is made from silver-plated metal in a bright silver colour and features scrolling arms, fluted drip pans, and faux candle sleeves issuing from a decorative beaded and acanthus leaf backplate. The sconces incorporate floral motifs, turned socket covers, and leaf-shaped terminals on the arms. Each light measures 38 cm high, 34.5 cm wide, and 38.5 cm deep. These wall lights suit a hallway, dining room, or drawing room, providing functional illumination while introducing a decorative French chateau aesthetic to narrow wall spaces. The set arrives fully rewired and cleaned for immediate installation in a traditional interior scheme.

FAQs

Louis XVI Revival lighting, popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, draws inspiration from classical antiquity. It features symmetrical forms, delicate scrolling arms, acanthus leaf embellishments, reeded columns, and beaded nozzles.

These fixtures are typically cast in solid brass or bronze to capture intricate decorative details before receiving an electroplated layer of silver. Faux candle sleeves were added to house electric wiring or hold candles.

Authentic pieces feature cast metal construction with visible hand-chased surface details, signs of gentle wear or tarnish on the silver plate, and historic mounting plates or channel cuts for early electrical wiring.

Silver-plated sconces can be placed symmetrically on either side of an ornate mirror, artwork, or fireplace mantel to create balance. They also suit formal dining rooms, hallways, and grand staircases requiring ambient lighting.

Clean gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth to remove dust. If polishing is necessary, use a non-abrasive silver cream sparingly to protect the underlying electroplated silver layer from excessive wear.
