This Edwardian silver-mounted claret jug takes the form of a large whisky noggin, pairing clear cut-glass with sterling silver hardware. The body incorporates an applied glass loop handle, a starburst cut base, and an engraved starburst motif across the centre. A hallmarked silver collar secures a hinged flat lid fitted with a thumbpiece lever, bearing visible British hallmarks on the neck mount. The piece stands 20 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this vessel sits suitably atop a sideboard, bar cart, or drinks cabinet. It functions practically for serving claret, wine, or spirits during dining or entertaining, or serves as a display piece within a gentleman's library or study. The clear glass shows internal reflections alongside the external cut details, while the silver components exhibit a polished metallic finish.

A whisky noggin is a small glass decanter, often shaped like a bell or cone, designed to hold an individual serving of spirits. During the Edwardian period, silver-mounted claret jugs and noggins became popular dining accessories crafted with silver collars and hinged lids.

These items traditionally combine hand-blown or cut lead glass with sterling silver collars, mounts, and hinged lids. The silver fittings are hallmarked to indicate purity, maker, and year of production.

Authentic British sterling silver from the Edwardian era bears a set of stamped hallmarks including the lion passant mark, a town mark (such as a leopards head for London or an anchor for Birmingham), a makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the years 19011910.

Place the silver-mounted glass jug on a timber sideboard, bar cart, or tray alongside crystal glassware to create a focal point. Its clean glass silhouette and metallic accents complement both classic and contemporary decor schemes.

Wash the glass interior with warm water and mild soap using a flexible bottle brush, avoiding harsh chemicals. Polish the silver collar and lid gently with a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove oxidisation without scratching the metal.
