Description

A rare and stylish pair of Arts and Crafts wall lights with a great look dating from around 1900.

The gilt metal lanterns have their original amber glass shades in perfect condition that would give a lovely warm light at the front of a property and they would particularly suit a house from the early 1900s.

The gilt metal design in a torch or cone style has scrolling metal supports for the coolie shaped lids so these have a most interesting and attractive look.

Wired ready for use the lights measure 48 cms in height. They are 28cms in diameter at the lids and project 24 cms from the wall.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasized hand-crafted workmanship, traditional materials, and medieval-inspired forms, rejecting mass production in favour of artistic integrity and utility.

Period wall lanterns were typically constructed using forged iron, brass, or copper frames combined with blown, amber, or textured glass panels.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-hammered marks, traditional joinery such as rivets rather than modern welds, and natural patination on the metal surfaces.

They can be used to add historical contrast and warmth to minimalist or transitional spaces, functioning as both functional lighting and sculptural wall art.

Clean surfaces gently with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip away historical patina and protective coatings.
