A gypsy ring typically features a heavy band that tapers towards the back, with gemstones flush-set into the metal, a style that gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

They are predominantly crafted from high-carat gold, such as 18ct or 9ct, and often feature flush-set diamonds, rubies, sapphires, or emeralds secured within star or grain settings.

Authentic pieces usually bear clear British hallmarks stamped inside the shank, indicating the metal purity, assay office location, and date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Such a piece works well worn alone as a statement band or mixed with contemporary minimalist gold jewellery to create an eclectic, textured look.

Store antique pieces separately in soft pouches to prevent scratching, and clean them gently with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, avoiding harsh ultrasonic cleaners which can damage older settings.
