The Georgian design period spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George (1714 to 1830), characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated joinery, and the adoption of imported timbers like mahogany.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade glass panes, and brass hardware.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct timber shrinkage, hand-blown crown glass with bubbles or imperfections, secondary woods such as oak or pine in drawer linings, and traditional hand-cut joinery.

Pairing dark wood period furniture with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary art creates a balanced, eclectic interior that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, dust regularly with a dry lint-free cloth, and periodically apply traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
