A pap boat is a small, boat-shaped vessel used from the late 17th to the 19th century to feed papa soft food made from breadcrumbs, flour, or rice boiled in water or milkto infants, invalids, or the elderly.

Pap boats were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, though pewter and ceramic examples also exist. They were typically hand-raised from a single sheet of metal, resulting in a smooth, seamless bowl with an integrated pouring spout.

Authentic pieces from the George II period are identified by hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling standard, a city mark, and the date letter corresponding to the specific year of assay.

Antique silver objects add a touch of historical contrast when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or coffee tables, often styled alongside contemporary ceramics or books to create a curated, layered look.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the patina and hallmarks, and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight.
