The Georgian era spans from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the integration of functional objects with decorative stones like agate and jasper.

Georgian letter openers and paper knives typically featured sterling silver blades or handles paired with organic materials such as ivory, mother-of-pearl, or polished hardstones like Scottish agate.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear silver hallmarks stamped onto the metal, indicating the assay office, makers mark, and standard of silver, alongside period-appropriate hand-cut construction techniques.

An antique letter opener can be displayed flat on an executive desk, placed inside a shallow glass display tray, or propped upright on a bookshelf to add historical texture to contemporary workspaces.

Preserve silver and stone objects by dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical silver dips that can damage natural gemstones, and keeping them away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
