The George V era spans from 1910 to 1936, characterised by a blend of traditional craftsmanship influenced by earlier Victorian and Edwardian periods, alongside early glimpses of Art Deco geometric simplicity.

These frames typically feature a thin sheet of sterling silver bonded to a wooden or metal core, fitted with a hinged wooden or cardboard strut back covered in velvet or moire fabric.

Authenticity is verified by locating official British hallmarks, which typically include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, and a date letter.

Placing a polished metallic frame on a dark wood surface or a modern mantelpiece adds reflective light, texture, and a sense of historical narrative to a room.

Use a specialised, non-abrasive silver cloth to gently remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage the protective lacquer or underlying core materials.
