We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian era, patch boxes were crafted to hold small silk, velvet, or paper patches used by fashionable individuals to cover facial blemishes or smallpox scars. These miniature containers reflect the social customs and refined metalworking techniques of late 18th-century Britain.

These items were typically made from sterling silver, often featuring hinged lids, gilt interiors, and occasionally inset enamel plaques or mirrors. Silversmiths utilised stamping, chasing, and engravework techniques to decorate the exterior surfaces.

Authentic pieces bear hallmarks struck directly into the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a duty mark indicating tax payment during the reign, and a date letter corresponding to the assay office records.

Small antique metal objects work well when displayed on a desk, bookshelf, or dressing table, offering a point of historical interest without cluttering the surface. They can be placed alongside modern accessories to create a curated, layered aesthetic.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary to prevent wearing down delicate hallmarks and engravings. Store items in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and humidity to minimise tarnishing.
