Description

For sale this Chinese very finely painted blue and white plate decorated with a songbird and insects to the centre. Dating circa 1765. The painting in just various shades of under glaze blue on this example is of the highest standard. I have not seen one painted to these exacting standards in many years. The plate has two rim chips, one with related hairline, as shown in the pics. The plate is 23cm diameter and 2.8cm deep. Although with slight damage it should not detract from the sheer quality this piece exhibits. Price £225.00 inclusive of shipping to with the UK. (Reserved PS)

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Chinese export porcelain refers to ceramics manufactured in China specifically for the European and American markets, often combining traditional Chinese techniques with Western shapes and commissioned armorial or floral motifs.

These pieces were crafted from petuntse and kaolin clay, glazed with feldspathic mixtures, and hand-painted using cobalt oxide pigment before being fired at high temperatures in traditional kilns.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-painted brushwork with natural cobalt bleeding, characteristic iron-foot rim imperfections, subtle potting asymmetries, and age-related glaze wear rather than uniform printed patterns.

These items can be displayed as wall art using specialized plate hangers, mounted on plate racks, or styled on sideboards to introduce historical texture and pattern to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires hand washing with mild soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials, preventing exposure to rapid temperature fluctuations, and ensuring secure mounting to prevent accidental impacts.
