FAQs

Victorian candelabra evolved during the 19th century, heavily influenced by revivalist movements such as Gothic, Rococo, and Renaissance styles, often utilised for formal dining and evening entertaining.

These items were typically manufactured using a base metal such as copper, brass, or Britannia metal, which was then coated with a thin layer of pure silver using either early electroplating techniques or older Sheffield plating methods.

Authentic pieces often exhibit makers marks, traditional casting flaws, wear revealing the base metal underneath, and hand-chased detailing rather than modern mass-produced uniformity.

They can be used as a striking focal point on a dining table, sideboard, or mantelpiece, contrasting effectively against minimalist modern surfaces or complementing traditional schemes.

Clean periodically with a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the plating, and store in a low-humidity environment.
