Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Victorian Doulton Lambeth candlesticks comprise a matching pair of decorative stoneware items created in an earthenware pottery style. Each piece exhibits a buff brown body decorated with applied white sprigged scrollwork motifs, dark brown floral collars, and raised white enamel dot detailing around the base and upper rim. The turned pedestals support wide circular drip pans and stand on spreading circular bases. Measuring 16.5 cm in height by 11 cm in width and 11 cm in depth, they display uniform proportions suitable for interior display. Such decorative items suit placement upon a mantelpiece or a side table within a traditional living room, dining room, or hallway setting. They function practically to hold taper candles while adding a distinct period aesthetic to domestic interiors. The design integrates elements of Victorian and Gothic styles through symmetrical patterns and contrasting enamel colours. Collectors of nineteenth-century ceramics will find these pieces represent typical manufacturing methods of the period, including applied relief decoration and glazed earthenware bodies.

FAQs

Doulton Lambeth stoneware refers to British art pottery produced at the Lambeth factory in London during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, renowned for hand-applied relief decorations, salt glazes, and individual artisan craftsmanship.

These ceramic pieces were constructed from dense stoneware clay and decorated using sprigging, where pre-moulded relief elements such as scrolls and beads were adhered to the body before firing at high temperatures.

Authentic examples feature stamped factory marks impressed into the underside of the ceramic base, often accompanied by artist monograms, assistant marks, and numerical pattern codes.

A pair of stoneware candlesticks can be arranged on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard to introduce earthy tones, geometric texture, and historical interest to modern neutral spaces.

Clean gently with a soft dry cloth or lukewarm water mixed with mild soap, ensuring the ceramic is not submerged to preserve the raised enamel and slip decoration.
