Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian epergne from 1920 is an electroplated nickel silver five-trumpet table centrepiece with a polished silver finish. The design includes a tall central trumpet flanked by four smaller branching vases supported by scroll arms above a circular weighted base. All five trumpet vases feature fluted rims and smooth tapering stems. The photographic view reveals visible surface reflections in the bright metallic finish, delicate curled wire scroll supports beneath each arm, and fine seams where the metal components join the base. It measures 23 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 28 cm deep. Ideal as a decorative table centrepiece for a dining table or sideboard in a traditional home setting.

FAQs

Epergnes became prominent dining table centrepieces during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designed to display floral arrangements, fruits, or sweetmeats during formal meals.

These pieces typically consist of a base metal alloy, such as nickel silver, electroplated with a thin layer of pure silver, featuring detachable scroll branches and trumpet-shaped receptacles.

Authentic period examples often feature maker marks or electroplate stamps on the base, alongside signs of historic hand-assembly, drawn wire scrollwork, and appropriate age-related oxidation.

Position the epergne as a focal point on a formal dining table or sideboard, filling the individual trumpets with fresh greenery, small seasonal blooms, or dried stems.

Wash gently with warm soapy water using a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads, and treat periodically with a silver polishing cream to remove light tarnish while protecting the silver layer.
