John Beazor Antiques is a family firm, established in 1875 and based in Cambridge since 1940. We are a traditional antiques shop, but very much in the 21st century. We deal in 18th and early 19th century furniture, barometers and clocks. We choose our stock for its originality and for the quality of its colour, patination and design.

We are members of the BADA. We do not exhibit at fairs preferring to deal from our Cambridge shop where we hold Open Weekends from time to time.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fire dogs, also known as andirons or chenets, have been used since the medieval period to elevate logs within a hearth, allowing air to circulate underneath for a better fire.

Traditional fire dogs are typically constructed from forged iron for the horizontal billets, combined with cast brass, bronze, or iron for the decorative front standards.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-filed casting marks, heavy weight, natural tarnish appropriate to the metals age, and traditional joinery such as threaded bolts or pinned joints rather than modern welding.

They can be positioned inside an active or decorative fireplace hearth to anchor the rooms focal point, bringing metallic warmth and period character to the scheme.

Maintain the metal by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a gentle microcrystalline wax if necessary, avoiding harsh chemical abrasive polishes that strip historical patina.
