Edwardian silver frames, produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), frequently feature light, graceful motifs inspired by eighteenth-century French Rococo and Neoclassical styles, often incorporating pierced work, ribbons, flowers, and cherubs.

These items typically consist of a thin sheet of sterling silver shaped using repousse and chasing techniques, mounted over a wooden or cardboard core, and backed with velvet or baize supported by a hinged strut.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver border, which indicate the assay office, the lion passant for sterling standard, and a date letter corresponding to the early twentieth century.

An antique silver frame provides a reflective metallic accent that contrasts effectively against matte surfaces, making it suitable for display on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or bedside table alongside modern or traditional decor.

Silver frames should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized microfibre cloth and a mild, non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding excessive rubbing on raised relief details to preserve the original patina and hallmark impressions.
