FAQs

Art Deco lighting originated in France during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by geometric shapes, stylised animal motifs, and a combination of industrial metals with luxurious materials like marble and frosted glass.

Authentic period pieces typically feature patinated bronze, spelter, or brass figures mounted on heavy bases of polished marble or onyx, paired with moulded, frosted, or acid-etched glass shades.

Authentication involves checking for period-appropriate casting techniques, natural patination on the metalwork, genuine marble bases without modern resin fillers, and maker signatures or foundry marks often stamped near the base.

This type of statement lighting works best as a focal point on a credenza, mantelpiece, or bedside table, contrasting cleanly against minimalist modern furniture to highlight its sculptural silhouette.

Dust metal components gently with a soft microfibre cloth without using harsh chemical polishes that can strip the original patina, and clean glass shades using a mild soapy solution while avoiding immersion in water.
