Charles II furniture, spanning the late 17th century, is characterised by architectural elements, geometric mouldings, and the transition from heavier oak constructions to the increased use of walnut and applied decorations.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid English oak using hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged mortise and tenon joints, and applied geometric moulding frames fixed to drawer fronts with hand-Wrought nails.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-tool marks, original forged iron or brass drop handles, period-correct locking mechanisms, and the overall patina developed through centuries of oxidation.

Pairing a dark, heavily textured antique oak chest with minimalist contemporary decor, neutral walls, and clean architectural lines creates a striking focal point that highlights the pieces historic craftsmanship.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, dusting with a dry lint-free cloth, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without sealing the pores.
