Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Charles II Oak Chest to the 17th Century.
The drawers retain brass ring handles and are divided centrally by brass escutcheons.
Of particularly attractive early construction, the chest has a moulded and slightly overhanging top above a band of incised geometric decoration, with applied mouldings separating the drawer divisions. The panelled sides and substantial drawer construction are typical of furniture of the period. Raised on square feet beneath a moulded base.
The oak has developed a wonderfully rich, dark colour and surface, with the expected marks, wear and minor imperfections commensurate with its considerable age, all contributing to its character.
