This nineteenth-century French porcelain cabinet plate follows the Sevres manner within a Rococo Revival style, displaying a turquoise and white colour palette enriched with gold leaf enamel. The central circular well shows hand-painted floral bouquets featuring pink roses and yellow flowers, framed by elaborate raised gold scrollwork. A wide pale turquoise border carries swags of painted rose garlands and gilded architectural motifs, bounded by a scalloped edge finished with gold trim. Measuring 3 cm high by 23 cm wide and 23 cm deep, the dish displays minor wear specifically along the gilded rim. Positioned on a sideboard top, this decorative plate serves as a table display piece within a dining room or living space. The porcelain construction supports interior styling applications suited to traditional domestic interiors. The circular silhouette integrates with plate stands or wall hanging brackets.

FAQs

Porcelain produced in the Sevres manner during the 19th century emulates the refined techniques of the original Royal Manufactory of Sevres. These pieces feature elaborate gilded scrollwork, vibrant ground colours such as bleu celeste, and detailed hand-painted botanical or figurative cartouches.

Cabinet plates were crafted using hard-paste porcelain, painted with mineral-based enamel pigments, and accented with burnished gold leaf gilding. Decorative floral motifs and raised scrollwork were applied by hand before high-temperature kiln firing set the glazes.

Authentic 19th-century Sevres-style items frequently bear pseudo-interlocking L marks, painter marks, or date letters on the underside. Quality examples feature precise hand-gilding, crisp relief moulding, and layered enamel painting rather than modern transfer prints.

Display these plates upright on stands inside a glazed cabinet or mount them in a wall grouping above a console table. Their turquoise ground colours and gilded detailing contrast effectively against dark wood furniture or neutral backdrops.

Dust porcelain gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to clean intricate gilding. Avoid using liquid detergents, abrasive chemicals, or water, as moisture can degrade delicate gilding and existing restorations over time.
