Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian silver plated salvers gained popularity during the 19th century as an accessible alternative to solid sterling silver, utilised in middle and upper-class households for serving drinks and calling cards.

These items were typically manufactured using a base metal such as copper or nickel silver, which was then electroplated with a thin layer of pure silver and often embellished with hand-chased engravings and cast mounts.

Authenticity is determined by examining makers marks, hallmarks or electroplate stamps on the underside, alongside observing the natural wear patterns, weight, and traditional construction methods such as applied rims and soldered feet.

Such metallic pieces can be styled as a reflective centrepiece on a coffee table or sideboard, used to corral small objects like candles or glassware to add a layer of historic contrast to contemporary spaces.

Preservation involves regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional gentle cleaning with a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials that could wear through the thin silver plating to the base metal underneath.
