Figural pin cushions made from silver became highly popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Silversmiths crafted them in whimsical animal shapes to appeal to affluent households for use on dressing tables and writing desks.

Traditional construction typically involves a weighted base and figural top cast in sterling silver, often combined with shafts made from mother of pearl, bone, or ivory, paired with a velvet or wool stuffing for the cushion.

Authenticity is usually verified by examining hallmarks stamped on the silver components, checking the quality of the hand-chased detailing on the metal, and assessing the age-appropriate wear on the cushion fabric and base.

Place the piece on a dressing table, vanity tray, or bedside cabinet to function as both a practical ring holder and a miniature sculptural display object.

Dust the item gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid using liquid silver dip directly near the fabric cushion to prevent staining or degradation of the original stuffing and adhesive.
