Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French gilt bronze chandeliers gained prominence during the 17th and 18th centuries, evolving through Louis XIV, Regency, and Empire periods. Master artisans employed fire-gilding techniques to create opulent lighting centrepieces for chateaux and formal salons.

These fixtures are typically constructed from cast bronze or brass, finished with a layer of gold leaf or mercury gilding. Components are traditionally cast in multiple sections, chased by hand to refine details, and assembled using threaded pins or screws.

Authentic antique pieces often exhibit hand-chased surface details, patination consistent with age, heavy cast construction, and traditional wiring or socket types appropriate to their manufacturing era rather than modern mass-produced uniformity.

Pairing an ornate metallic fixture with contemporary, minimalist furniture creates a sophisticated contrast. Suspending the piece in a high-ceilinged room, hallway, or above a dining table draws the eye upward and adds architectural depth.

Dust the fixture regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent particulate build-up. Avoid chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, as these can strip or damage the delicate gilt surface.
