A vesta case is a small pocket container designed to hold matches, known as vestas, which became widely popular during the Victorian era following the invention of friction matches.

While sterling silver is common, vesta cases were also crafted from brass, base metals, ivory, mother-of-pearl, and sometimes gold or enamel.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmarks stamped on the interior or exterior rim, indicating the assay office, date letter, and silver standard.

These small objects can be displayed as desktop curiosities, arranged inside a glass display cabinet, or placed on a tray on a coffee table.

Silver vesta cases should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh abrasives that could wear away fine engraving and hallmarks.
