Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Silver ink stands, or inkwells, became prominent desk accessories during the 18th and 19th centuries as essential tools for correspondence before the invention of the fountain pen. Crafted by silversmiths, they served both a utilitarian purpose and as a status symbol on executive desks.

Traditional ink stands typically feature a combination of sterling silver for the tray and mounts, paired with cut or moulded glass bottles for the ink reservoirs, often incorporating ceramic liners or brass components.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear hallmarks stamped into the metal, indicating the assay office (such as Chester), the makers mark, and the date letter, alongside period-appropriate manufacturing techniques like hand-cut glass and traditional casting.

An antique ink stand can be displayed on an executive desk, a library console table, or a mantelpiece to add a layer of historic craftsmanship and reflective metallic texture to a contemporary study or living space.

Preserve silver ink stands by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and using specialised silver polish sparingly to avoid removing hallmarks, while keeping glass components clean with mild soapy water.
