Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, and shipped from the port of Imari. It gained prominence during the Edo period in the late 17th and 18th centuries, highly sought after by European royalty and aristocracy.

Authentic Imari pieces are crafted from local porcelain stone, shaped, and fired at high temperatures. The distinct aesthetic relies on an underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red, complemented by delicate highlights in gold and other enamel colours.

Identification involves examining the weight, paste consistency, glaze imperfections, and brushwork characteristics typical of historical kilns. Older pieces often exhibit foot-rim wear, slight potting asymmetries, and characteristic spur marks on the base from firing supports.

These pieces function effectively as focal points when mounted on walls using secure plate hangers or displayed upright on mantels and open shelving. Their vibrant palette pairs well with neutral backdrops, allowing the historic patterns to anchor contemporary spaces.

Antique ceramics should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth and kept away from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading. Washing should be avoided unless necessary, using only lukewarm water and mild soap while omitting harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
