FAQs

Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art that was most popular between 1890 and 1910. It is characterised by organic forms, sinuous lines, and frequent depictions of natural elements and the human figure.

These lamps were typically constructed using cast metals such as spelter, bronze, or brass, often featuring hand-painted patination or cold-painted finishes, frequently mounted on wooden or metal bases.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic foundry marks or artist signatures, naturalistic casting flaws consistent with period manufacturing techniques, and genuine age-related wear to the surface patination.

Such pieces serve as sculptural focal points and can be positioned on large sideboards or desks to contrast clean, modern architectural lines with intricate historical craftsmanship.

Conservation involves gently dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding all chemical cleaning agents or abrasives that could strip the original historical patination or painted surface details.
