Victorian jewellery spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and is typically categorised into three distinct periods: Romantic, Grand, and Aesthetic, often featuring sentimental motifs, rich gemstones, and intricate metalwork.

Jewellery from the late 19th century frequently utilised yellow gold and silver-topped gold settings to enhance the brilliance of diamonds, combined with naturally mined coloured gemstones such as opals, rubies, and sapphires.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut gemstones such as old mine or old European cuts with characteristic irregularities, hand-beaten or cast metal settings without modern laser engraving, and natural signs of age-related wear.

An antique cocktail ring serves as a striking statement piece that can be worn individually to draw focus, or paired with minimalist contemporary attire to highlight its historical craftsmanship.

Opals contain water and are sensitive to sudden temperature changes, harsh chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners; they should be stored safely away from hard stones and cleaned gently with a soft, damp cloth.
