How do you clean the wood on these?

Dust them with a soft dry cloth. A damp microfibre works for sticky marks. Waxing once a year feeds the finish. Rub a clear beeswax polish sparingly along the grain. Buff it off with a clean duster.

I have noticed that the shelves on my bookcase cannot be adjusted up or down, was this normal for the period when they were made?
