Vicky Thomas Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The lamp has a strong square base standing on four stylised animal paws, with stepped fluted moulding leading to an intricate finial and the fluted column with detailed collars. At the top is a central cradle holding a brass orb which originally stored the oil, and now houses the lamp fitting.
I am offering the lamp in a polished condition as this is how the lamp had been kept by its previous owner, however having had a full clean, if desired this could fade back to an even matt tarnished finish over a period of time if that is the look that you prefer.
You are very welcome to have the lamp shade in the photos free of charge - this is just a modern one that I bought to take the photos with.
