Handsome Large Leather Studded American Cabin Trunk

Description

A rare and probably bespoke, handsome American Cabin Trunk. Normal wear as you would expect. A generous size with a leather/hide or similar covering with brass studding throughout.

This has the makers/retailer brass plate to the top of the trunk and was purchased from "Brodil Importing Company" late 19th or early 20th Century.

Significantly Brodil had a shop in Fifth Avenue, New York which is widely accepted as the most important retail street in the World.

Attractive brass fittings as can be seen on the photographs with strong brass levers for opening and closing. There are two strong solid brass supports to each which appear to be for the purpose of slipping a carrying pole, this would make sense since when full it would be heavy and there have never been carrying handles to each side.

The initials 'A.H.' are stamped to one side, presumably the original owner. Inside, the main compartment retains its original canvas webbing and the lid contains an extra fitted box which lowers to reveal separate storage, held in place by the original leather and brass fixings.

This is a fabulous interiors piece, not only a great looker but great storage.
