Charles Horner established a manufacturing business in Halifax, Yorkshire, originally known for jewellery and silver smallware, eventually expanding into distinctive tableware and decorative items characterised by high craftsmanship during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.

These items are typically crafted from sterling silver, employing techniques such as hammering, repousse work, chasing, piercing, and cast mounts to achieve ornate relief ornamentation and structural integrity.

Authenticity is verified by locating the specific makers mark, typically featuring the CH monogram, alongside standard British assay office marks, town marks, and date letters that correspond to hallmarks stamped on the metal.

An antique silver dish can be displayed on a sideboard or coffee table as a standalone decorative object or utilised to hold modern items such as glass beads, dried botanicals, or keys to create a contrast between historic metalwork and clean-lined modern spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive microfibre cloth and specialized silver polish designed to preserve the patina, avoiding harsh dips that can strip away important historical oxidation from recessed details.
