In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Hildesheim Rose pattern originated in Germany during the late nineteenth century, inspired by the legend of the Thousand-Year Rose bush growing at Hildesheim Cathedral. German silversmiths crafted flatware featuring sculpted rosebuds, leaves, and thorny vines along the handles, creating a prominent style for tea and dessert service throughout Europe.

Hildesheim rose cake forks were predominantly manufactured using continental silver, most commonly 800 grade silver, although sterling (925 grade) and silver-plated varieties were also produced. The decorative handles were created through casting and die-stamping techniques to achieve detailed dimensional floral relief.

Authentic German examples feature silver hallmarks stamped into the metal, such as 800 indicating silver purity, accompanied by the German national mark of a crescent moon and crown. The handle design strictly incorporates relief carving of a blooming rose terminal with continuous stem and leaf detailing extending down towards three tines.

These forks are typically paired with porcelain dessert plates for formal afternoon tea, wedding breakfasts, or cake tasting courses. They can be presented alongside neutral linen napkins and crystal glassware to highlight the detailed metalwork on a dining table.

Wash silver forks by hand in warm water using mild dish detergent, avoiding abrasive pads. Regular polishing with a specialised silver cream removes surface oxidisation, while storage in tarnish-resistant cloth bags protects the intricate floral relief from environmental tarnish.
