ANTIQUE #SA979233

Cockpen Type Armchair For Guildhall, Bath

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: William Carr Antiques

An attractive Cockpen type armchair, after a design by Thomas Chippendale, in the Chinese taste. The finely pierced lattice back and arms make for a very crisp and sharp design that has been extremely popular for hundreds of years. The chair was made for Guildhall, Bath and commissioned by Bath City Council in around 1920.

The drop in seat is upholstered in what looks to be its original pistachio coloured fabric, with intertwining floral decoration.
