In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
It has a metal lock plate but is missing the strap lock.

The coffer is in good original condition and has developed a rich patina with a lovely dark colour. It is generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, some knocks and marks but nothing detrimental or untoward. There are some historic signs of worm and the bottom of the legs have worn, possibly causing the chest to lose a little bit of height. The tip of one strap hinge is missing but the hinges are solid and the whole chest is strong and sturdy. The coffer has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
