A salver is a footed or flat tray used for serving or displaying items, originating in the 17th century and becoming highly popular in Britain during the Georgian and Victorian eras for formal presentation.

Salvers are traditionally crafted from sterling silver, containing 92.5 percent pure silver, often shaped using silversmithing techniques such as raising, casting for decorative borders, and hand-chasing.

Authentic pieces carry a full set of British hallmarks, which typically include the makers mark, the standard mark for sterling silver, the town mark indicating the assay office, and a date letter signifying the year of assay.

A silver salver can be used as a reflective surface on a sideboard or coffee table to display small decorative objects, crystal decanters, or pillar candles, adding metallic contrast to contemporary spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a specialised non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to maintain its patina, avoiding harsh dips that can strip historical oxidisation from recessed details.
