Imari porcelain originates from the town of Arita in Hizen province, Japan, and was exported heavily to Europe from the port of Imari during the Edo period starting in the 17th century.

Imari pieces are crafted from local kaolin-rich clay, fired at high temperatures, and traditionally hand-painted with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, complemented by highlights of gold and green.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit age-related wear such as minor gilt rubbing, unglazed foot rims with firing grit, hand-mixed pigments with slight pooling, and characteristic crazing within the glaze.

These decorative pieces can be mounted on walls for vibrant pattern display, showcased on plate stands within cabinets, or used as focal accents on sideboards to introduce rich historical colour.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap when necessary; avoid soaking, harsh chemical detergents, abrasive scrubbers, and placement in direct sunlight or dishwashers.
