This George III sterling silver chamberstick is a Georgian piece made in London in 1791 by Henry Chawner. The solid silver object has a reflective silver finish and features a circular saucer base, a raised central candle socket, a reeded border, and a curved side handle with an attached removable conical snuffer equipped with a small finial. The base, sconce and snuffer all display matching hallmarks, and the rim shows a small repair. The item stands 14 cm high and measures 11 cm wide. In a modern interior, this functional antique suits placement on a bedside table or a living room mantelpiece for display and traditional use. It offers a practical accent for traditional English Country House interiors, bringing authentic 18th-century metalwork into daily domestic settings as a decorative tabletop accessory or for traditional candle illumination.

A chamberstick is a short, portable candle holder featuring a broad saucer-like tray, a loop or scroll handle, and usually a matching conical candle snuffer. Popularised throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, these items were designed to carry burning candles safely between rooms at night.

Georgian chambersticks were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver, fused Sheffield plate, or cast brass. Sterling silver examples were wrought and cast by hand, featuring hallmarks stamped directly into the pan and matching components.

Authentic 18th-century silver chambersticks carry a full set of British hallmarks, including the makers mark, town mark, lion passant for silver purity, date letter, and sovereign duty mark. Original matching pieces, such as the removable conical snuffer, often feature small corresponding marks.

An antique silver chamberstick functions as a historic accent piece when displayed on a bedside table, hallway console, or mantelpiece. Position it alongside natural timber surfaces or contemporary ceramics to provide a subtle metallic contrast.

Clean silver chambersticks using a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish to remove oxidisation without eroding detail. Avoid abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, or automatic dishwashers that could permanently scratch soft sterling silver.
