Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Persian Ferahan rug is an 1870 wool and cotton hand-knotted small roomsize square carpet with a cream field and a wide navy blue border. The surface displays an all-over repeating geometric and floral pattern with palmettes woven in natural dyes, framed by guard borders, showing a good pile and local repairs visible on close inspection. Practical measurements are 330 cm high by 305 cm wide with a 0.5 cm depth. This carpet suits an English Country House interior styling scheme and sits well on a floor in a large living room, dining room or study as a central grounding piece.

FAQs

Regular maintenance requires gentle vacuuming without a rotating brush attachment to protect the fibers. Direct sunlight exposure should be limited to prevent uneven fading, and professional cleaning by a specialist rug restorer is recommended periodically.

An antique Persian carpet serves as a visual anchor in a room, contrasting well against modern minimalist furniture or complementing classic timber joinery. Placement under a central seating arrangement or dining table helps define spatial boundaries within open-plan layouts.

Authenticity can be evaluated by examining the knot density on the underside, which exhibits subtle irregular hand-weaving textures. Look for characteristic design motifs, such as the Herati pattern, alongside the subtle colour variations known as abrash resulting from natural dye batches.

These carpets are constructed using a fine wool pile hand-tied with asymmetrical knots onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. Natural vegetable dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects are traditionally used to achieve the varied colour tones.

Ferahan carpets are hand-knotted textiles originating from the Arak region in West Persia, produced predominantly during the nineteenth century. They are characterized by their tight weave, soft wool, and refined repeating patterns, often anchored by deep navy blue and terracotta dye palettes.
