Description

A fine and beautiful distressed antique Kirman carpet, a delicate floral design with warm pinkish reds, soft pinks and pale blues. An incredibly decorative and interesting carpet, the detailing is exquisite all woven by hand around 120 years ago.

Condition is distressed and showing wear, the carpet has a wonderful distressed look, although worn it is secure and structurally excellent.  Supplied with our anti-slip underlay, this aids distressed carpets enormously, stopping them moving on the floor and preventing further damage.

Originating from the Kerman province in south-eastern Iran, Kirman carpets are recognised for their elaborate central medallions, delicate floral motifs, and soft, finely spun wool. Historically woven during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they typically feature complex spandrels and multi-tiered composite borders.

Traditional Kirman carpets are hand-knotted using a fine wool pile tied onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. Weavers used asymmetric Persian knots to achieve dense weave counts, enabling highly detailed floral patterns and curvilinear designs.

Authentic antique Kirmans feature flexible cotton foundations, soft natural-dyed wool, and elaborate starburst or medallion motifs with detailed corner spandrels. Inspecting the underside reveals clear hand-knotting and subtle natural colour variations known as abrash.

A distressed Kirman carpet introduces historic character and texture to contemporary spaces when positioned beneath modern seating or dining sets. The muted patina and intricate pattern balance clean architectural lines and neutral interior palettes.
