Rare and Fine Mid 19th Century Indian Carved Sandalwood Casket

Description

A rare and large carved sandalwood table casket, Mysore, South India, circa 1860, of fine detail and quality.

Dimensions: 19.5cm high, 40cm wide, 25cm deep

An almost identical, albeit smaller casket is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, Indian Section, No. 9672, and was noted as acquired by the India Museum before 1879.

A very similar casket, also in the Victorian & Albert collection, was purchased by the East India Company and exhibited at the Great Exhibition, London in 1851.
