Rare German Solid Silver Desk Inkwell Secret Box C1900 Antique 308g

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare German solid silver desk inkwell with secret box base. It is hallmarked with the German crescent moon and crown mark, the 800 standard silver mark and the makers mark of Gebruder Deyhle who operated in Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1820. I would date it to c1900-1920. It has been superbly made looking just like an inkwell however it opens to reveal a hidden compartment. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits chips cracks and repairs. It measures approx. 4 inches (10.2cm) tall by 3.25 inches (8.4cm) square and weighs 308 grams excluding the glass well. A superbly made example.
