The Silver Cabinet has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is clearly hallmarked for London 1840, with the maker's mark for Charles Fox II. The engraved decoration incorporates a cartouche which features a rather worn family crest. The pull off lid fits tightly and the gilding inside is in excellent condition. The pot stands on a circular pedestal base.
